Description
Short film made entirely in Blender for the Graphics Modeling and Visualization course. The film shows a plane flying through different scenes to the sound of a music track from the soundtrack of the movie “Mirai”.
My Work
This film was made by me and two other people. I storyboarded the whole film, drawing by hand, to submit as a proposal to the other two students. And since my idea was chosen for production, I got to be the director and productor of the film.
Additionally, I modelled several assets, including trees, clouds, grass… and animated around a third of the scenes, including the whole takeoff sequence, when the plane flies along a road until it reaches the sea, and the loop around the giant cloud near the end.
I also contributed in compositing the final film, and aligning animations with the score.
This was the first time using Blender for all team members, and quite a lot of our time was spent learning how to use the tool, the different techniques for modelling, texturing, and animating…
The production ran for three months, and while the final product is far from perfect (even half baked), it is possibly the project I am most proud of.
What I Learnt
- How to storyboard a short film by hand
- The basics of managing a small team and directing an artistic production
- How to use Blender for modelling, animating and compositing
- The effects a budget (in this case, a time budget) has on the production of an artistic product, and how to manage them
