Description

Mechanoccult is a lighthearted, cartoon-style, first-person, 1v1 typing game where players take on the roles of cultists attempting to summon their revered deity by reciting a ritual. The first player to complete the ritual wins. During the encounter, cultists can cast spells to hinder their opponent’s progress or defend themselves against attacks. Players win the game by either completing the ritual or defeating their enemy through attacks.

My Work

I was the lead artist for the game, a role which included defining the art style, coordinating with the other artists to produce the assets, and since we were a small team, producing some art myself! I was the artist for almost all card illustrations, done in pixel art style with Aseprite. I also produced some assets for the interface, including state icons and key indicators.

What I Learnt

  • How to define the art style of a videogame
  • How to do it so that there is consistency later on and artists have clear guidelines
  • How to create pixel art (although I definitely still consider myself a novice)
