Erasmus stay in Milano, taking courses from the Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering

Degree Overview

Erasmus+ stay for my 4th year of my Bachelor’s Degree in Politecnico di Milano, one of the best engineering schools in Europe and the best in Italy.

Although I was taking 4th year courses, the convalidation process and the differences in the education systems between Spain and Italy meant that I had to take courses from the Master’s Degree in Computer Science, which in many cases were above my level of expertise. This was a fine opportunity to take advanced courses on my interests and explore specializations that were not available on the University of Seville. All courses were taught in English.

Key Courses

  • Videogame Design and Programming (Semester 1): directed and took part in the development of Shotō, a small videogame about sailing, exploring, and talking to rat ladies.
  • Design and Implementation of Mobile Applications (Semester 1): designed and implemented Club App, an application for kids and parents of youth organizations.
  • Recommender Systems (Semester 1): studied all sorts of recommender systems in depth, and participated in the course’s Kaggle challenge.
  • Robotics and Design (Semester 2): built a robot from scratch, with a special focus on user-centered design. This course was taken along with students from the Design School.

Extracurricular activities

  • Worked remotely for the ES3 research group of the University of Seville (see here) for the whole stay.
  • Lent a hand on Fridays at Geko Club, a youth organization in the nearby city of Brescia.
  • Resided during the academic year at the MilanoAccademia University Residence and participated in its many cultural and formative experiences, including the JUMP program. The residence held both Italian and international students, so I had the luck of polishing my Italian and English too.
